FEATURING:

Remove the stigma around mental health by creating an open dialogue with the community. If we have to reach one person at a time we are willing to do the work. However, your support allows us to move the message quicker. Thank you for your support.

We would like to invite you to participate in our artist-driven Mental Health Awareness Digital Mix Tape, entitled “The Journey of Mental Health Recovery – Vol1”. This project is produced by Reality Check, a 501c3 non-profit in association with Beats & Lyrics Edutainment FAM, which has a 25+ year history of providing mentorship and support to young people through art, technology, and culture. With a focus on community building, we strive to empower and engage youth at every level, providing edutainment-based curriculums, after school programs, summer camps, field trips, lesson plans, projects, workshops, and forums to schools, community centers, youth prisons, group homes, and churches. Our vision is to create a positive and lasting impact on the lives of young people, helping them to become successful and engaged members of their communities. This project aims to promote mental health awareness, particularly among teenagers, young adults, and community members suffering from mental health issues.

We are inviting artists from various disciplines, such as poets, rappers, singers, writers, musicians, music producers, film producers, comedians, graphic artists, photographers, story tellers and painters, to participate in this project by submitting work of art on any of the following mental health topics: suicide, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, and HIV/AIDS.

As an artist, you can play a critical role in creating awareness about mental health by partnering with this project. Art therapy benefits mental health by improving mood, reducing anxiety, and aiding in the recovery of patients with post-traumatic stress disorder.

A study by the American Art Therapy Association found that art therapy is helpful for individuals struggling with depression because it can help to identify and express feelings, reduce stress, and increase self-awareness.

We are also inviting mental health professionals, such as psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, community organizations, rehabilitation centers, college professors, mental illness survivors, and advocacy groups, to participate in the production of this project. Your expertise will be crucial in providing resources, advice, and counseling on behavioral management, development of skills, and coping strategies to manage thoughts, emotions, and behavior that impact mental health. Through this project, we aim to reduce mental health stigmas, encourage public discussion, inspire hope, healing, and understanding for individuals struggling with mental health conditions, and thank and encourage our mental health professionals.

In addition to our community mix tape, an accompanying campaign will include mental health awareness content displayed on digital media formats, TV, radio, billboards, public art projects, yard signs, merchandise, window installations, novelty items, and other creative means of spreading awareness. To further our impact, we are also deploying a mental health awareness edutainment & empowerment tour through schools, community centers, youth prisons, group homes, and churches in which artists and mental health professionals will have an opportunity to serve as performers, guest speakers, and panelists.

If you know someone who would be a good fit for this project, please share this link and information with them. This is friends working with friends to make sure all our friends are ok.  Your support of Reality Check projects will always create a win-win moment for the community. Keep the conversation going.

We will review all submissions and select the best material to be included on this mix tape or other similar edutainment projects. Selected content from our artists and mental health professionals will be included in “The Journey of Mental Health Recovery – Vol1” Digital Mix Tape within the three stages of mental health recovery: 1. Awareness (Signs & Symptoms); 2. Acceptance (Treatment); and 3. Maintenance (Healthy Lifestyles).
